NHSWayne School District is excited to have 12 members in the National Honor Society and 14 in the Junior National Honor Society this year!\cb1 \
\cb3 The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921.

\cb3 Today, it is estimated that more than one million students participate in NHS activities. NHS chapters are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. territories, and Canada. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.\cb1 \
\cb3 To be a member of Wayne High School's Honor Society, students must submit an application, provide a transcript to show academic success, collect letters of recommendation from teachers, and be prepared to lead. Each year, the group chooses a service project that involves the entire community and all student body. This year, the National Honor Society is collecting new socks at the middle school and money at the high school. All donations will be given to the New Horizons Women's Shelter in Richfield to help support women and children who sometimes face homelessness because of domestic violence.\cb1 \
